The MRCP Part 2 forms just one part of the MRCP exam, which is required for achieving the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians Diploma, and progressing into specialised medical training. Part 2 covers various medical disciplines, and consists of multiple-choice questions with a ‘best of five’ format.

Medicine for the MRCP
by Rupa Bessant, Jonathan Birns, Charlotte Ford
A traditional textbook, but one that contains an incredible amount of detail for those studying for both MRCP Parts 1 and 2 written papers. Through twenty-seven chapters, this book covers everything from genetics and molecular medicine, whilst also discussing topics such as ethics and law. Each chapter starts with the basic knowledge needed for Part 1, before exploring clinical medicine for Parts 1 and 2, and the PACES exams.
Again, this is another physical textbook that is also available on Kindle or can be accessed through the Oxford Academic website.
If the thought of a chunky textbook puts you off a little, worry not! The material in this textbook is presented in short bitesize sections with boxes, bullet points, and tables to make it easier to digest. Points are further backed up with illustrations, showing key principles and clinical topics. There’s also a detailed reference section to help deepen your understanding of what’s required for MRCP Part 1 and Part 2, along with self-assessment sections at the end of each chapter.
Those studying should bear in mind that the most recent version of this text was published in 2020, and whilst the core topics may be unchanged, it’s a good idea to supplement your revision with additional resources.
150 ECG Cases
By John Hampton DM MA DPhil FRCP FFPM FESC, David Adlam BA BM BCh DPhil FRCP FESC, Joanna Hampton MD MA BM BCh FRCP
Please note that a newer version of this resource - The ECG Made Easy - will be released on September 13th 2024.
Another book, but again there is a Kindle version available if you’d prefer to keep things digital.
ECG questions have been known to crop up on the MRCP Part 2 exams, and there’s often no definitive way to get enough practice at them. 150 ECG Cases is a great resource to help brush up your knowledge of interpreting ECGs, and is laid out in a case-based approach for more realistic scenarios. It also features detailed answers concentrated on clinical interpretation of the results, and provides practical advice on the steps to take following diagnosis.
