MRCPCH Theory and Science (TAS) is one of four examinations needed to achieve Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH). MRCPCH TAS tests specifically for basic scientific principles needed in clinical practice. This theory examination (formerly known as MRCPCH Part 1B) lasts for 2.5 hours and is taken on a computer at a test centre.
MRCPCH Theory and Science is an exam which assesses the basic scientific, physiological and pharmacological principles of clinical practice, as well as the principles of evidence-based practice. The MRCPCH TAS exam typically consists of 70 SBAs and 10 EMQs. It builds upon the basic scientific principals taught at undergraduate level, and tests specifics that don't often come up in the more clinical-based exams, such as receptors and pathways, as well as statistical tests and interpretation of data.
The full exam syllabus can be found on the RCPCH website.
As this theory examination is taken on a computer, a question bank offers the best way to simulate the real exam. Our MRCPCH TAS question bank contains hundreds of SBA and EMQ questions written by specialists in the style of the real examination questions. Our mock exams enable you to get used to the format and timings of the exam, and the answer explanations let you know precisely why an answer is correct.
As well as questions our subscription contains a variety of MRCPCH TAS videos which simplify complex subjects such as Epidemiology and Statistics.
While answering questions on a computer is the best way to mimic the MRCPCH TAS exam, it requires dedicated revision time. Our MRCPCH TAS app with offline capabilities enables you to revise in short breaks and while travelling.
