This Valentine’s, we’re celebrating a different kind of love.
Loving Medicine. Loving the Career You Keep Choosing.
This Valentine’s Day, we asked a simple question:
“Love your career in medicine?”
The responses weren’t polished. They weren’t filtered. They were honest. Reflective. Real.
And they reminded us that medicine isn’t just a job. For many, it’s a relationship, one that evolves, challenges, stretches, and fulfils in ways few other paths can.
Here are some inspirational love stories to medicine, in their own words:
“The reason why I love medicine is because of the type of patients you come across. My first rotation was in Geriatrics and it was so rewarding to take care of elderly patients who always had time to share their stories. Seeing their family and loved ones visit them and how positive they were was truly inspiring. I was fortunate enough to meet a couple who were in their mid 90s and told me their story of how they were married for over 65 years! Hearing their adventures and positive outlook was truly inspiring.”
“I love medicine because it gives me the opportunity to meet so many different people, and to hear about their lives. It is such a privilege.”
“Being a doctor is a privilege because you’re there for people on what could be the worst day of their lives, offering care, reassurance, and hope. I love medicine because it challenges me to keep learning while allowing me to make a real difference. It’s the perfect blend of science and compassion, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
“Medicine isn’t perfect, and my journey with it hasn’t been linear but it’s a relationship I keep choosing. I love medicine because it gives my days meaning. It allows me to connect, to listen, to serve, and to be present during moments that truly matter in someone’s life. There are hard days, long pauses, and seasons of doubt but there is also purpose, growth, and a quiet fulfilment that keeps pulling me back. I continue to fall in love with medicine in new ways : through learning, through human connection, and through using my voice beyond the clinical space in education, creativity, and community. It’s not always easy, but it’s real. And that’s why I keep choosing it.”
“I love medicine because although some days can be hard, and we can burnout - there are very few careers where you get to ‘do good’ for people and the world everyday, and never once have I questioned whether I am fulfilled.”
“Medicine isn’t just a career anymore- it’s a way of life. Being a final-year medical student has changed my routine, mindset, and personality. You become more disciplined, patient, and resilient without even realizing it. I love medicine because it’s purposeful. Every day challenges you to think, grow, and show up for people when they need it most. It pushes you, shapes you, and slowly becomes a part of who you are."
“I love medicine because we are mending someone when they are in the most vulnerable position and we get to stay in their memories if not forever, at least for a long time.”
“It’s constantly evolving and I’m always being challenged in various ways.”
This Valentine’s, we celebrate a different kind of love; the love for medicine, for the people we care for, and for the purpose that keeps us going.
That’s why we keep choosing medicine.
