About the MRCPCH FOP & TAS Exam

The MRCPCH FOP & TAS are two of the core written exams that form part of the MRCPCH qualification - the Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. 

It's a postgraduate qualification required to become a consultant paediatrician in the UK.

The full MRCPCH exam consists of:

  • FOP – Foundation of Practice
  • TAS – Theory and Science
  • AKP – Applied Knowledge in Practice
  • The Clinical Exam

To be able to take the MRCPCH FOP & TAS you need to be a qualified medical doctor and hold a primary medical qualification that is recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC). The MRCPCH FOP & TAS is part of a postgraduate qualification required to become a consultant paediatrician in the UK.

For the MRCPCH FOP & TAS exams, the pass mark is usually around 60-65%. The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) allows a maximum of six attempts for each part of the MRCPCH examinations. Making sure you prioritise your MRCPCH FOP & TAS revision will be essential for progressing on to your AKP and Clinical Exams, and taking the next steps to becoming a consultant paediatrician. 

The MRCPCH FOP & TAS are two of the core written exams that form part of the MRCPCH qualification, and you’ll need to complete them both before you take the clinical and AKP exams. Yes. The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health allows candidates to take FOP and TAS on the same day, with FOP held in the morning and TAS in the afternoon.
