What you need to know
The MRCGP AKT is the Applied Knowledge Test component of the MRCGP - the Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners exam; one of the key assessments for doctors training to become a General Practitioner (GP) in the UK. The MRCGP AKT is a computer-based multiple-choice exam, designed to assess the clinical knowledge relevant to day-to-day general practice. It is usually taken during ST2 (Specialty Training Year 2) of GP training. Between 4-6 attempts are allowed, but it’s important that you prioritise your AKT exam revision. At Pastest, we have a huge AKT question bank and in-depth study materials to help you pass your AKT exam.
AKT exam revision has changed in 2025. From October 2025, the AKT has 160 questions, and the exam takes 2 hours 40 minutes. The questions are divided into three sections: 80% on clinical knowledge, 10% on evidence-based practice, and 10% on primary care organisation and management issues. By using our AKT question bank, you can understand what it’ll be like in the real exam. Despite the changes, as long as you put proper care into your revision through testing yourself on the material and using our AKT practice questions, you will put yourself in good stead to pass the AKT.
A maximum of four attempts is allowed if you were already in training on 1 August 2023. A maximum of six attempts is allowed if you entered GP Speciality Training for the first time on or after 2 August 2023. From October 2025, the exam will change from 200 questions to 160, so it’s essential that you prioritise AKT exam revision if you want to pass. With extensive revision by using our AKT practice questions, you can be well prepared for the first time you sit the exam. However, if not, you can always track your progress without AKT exam revision materials.
