About the PLAB 1 Exam

We've got 50 years of experience helping you prepare for exams! Here's the key information you need to know

PLAB 1 is an applied knowledge test (AKT) and is normally for doctors who graduated from medical schools outside the UK, EEA, or Switzerland. To register with the General Medical Council (GMC) and practice in the UK, you will need to take the PLAB 1 exam. Firstly, the GMC requires you to have passed either an OET or an IELTS exam to show you can communicate safely in English before you are able to sit PLAB 1.  The PLAB 1 test is designed to examine your knowledge on care of patients - less about reciting facts. Questions are designed to test your knowledge of best practice in the UK and UK hospital equipment. PLAB 1 study material can be difficult to get right, but at Pastest, we have you covered. Our PLAB 1 question bank has over 3500 exam style questions and expanded material flashcards to help you prepare for the exam. With our app, you can even track your medical revision PLAB 1 progress!

You are allowed to take the PLAB 1 four times. If you fail all four times, you can apply for one final attempt, but you'll need to demonstrate that you’ve been doing further learning and skills development. You must show that you've been actively working on your medical knowledge and clinical skills. Paying close attention to your PLAB 1 study material is a great way to prepare properly for the exam, to make sure that you can pass first time! Our PLAB 1 question bank contains over 3500 questions, so you can feel confident and assured when you go into the exam. Make sure to start planning your PLAB 1 revision now to give yourself the best chance of success in the exam.

Having a fantastic PLAB 1 medical revision plan is the best way you can properly prepare for the exam. Normally, it takes about 3-6 months to prepare fully for the exam. The amount of time you need will depend on your already existing experience and knowledge, however, our tailored PLAB 1 End-to-End Solution can help you get fully prepared to take the exam. Our app can help you track your knowledge, acquisition and progress, and our PLAB 1 question bank has over 3500 questions to help you test yourself and get ready for the exam.

Studying properly for the PLAB 1 exam is essential if you want to take the next step in your medical career, and work in the UK. You should start by having passed your English exam (OET/IELTS). We have partnered with Specialist Language Courses (SLC) to give you access to both resources to start you on your PLAB 1 journey. 3-6 months before you take the exam, you should begin your medical revision PLAB 1 plan. With our app, you can track your performance and get through the PLAB 1 study material in your own time - helping you build on your existing knowledge and get ready for the exam. We have over 3500 questions ready for you to practice in time for the exam in our PLAB 1 question bank, so you know what to expect when the exam begins.

There is no fixed PLAB 1 pass mark. The General Medical Council sets a new pass mark for each test using the internationally recognised Angoff method, taking the difficulty of the questions into account. Each correct answer earns one mark, and your results will show your total score and the score required to pass that particular exam. Read the official GMC guidance on PLAB 1 results and pass marks.
